gynaecological cancer awareness venus appeal
Further information on the Venus Appeal and Cancer Networks...
This site has been produced in collaboration with representatives from the Venus Appeal – which is organised by a group of doctors, nurses and women affected by gynaecological cancers - from the three Cancer Networks in the North West of England.
Venus Appeal members believe many deaths from gynaecological cancer could be prevented if women knew more about the signs and symptoms. It therefore aims to encourage women to be more aware of the four main gynaecological cancers, and to consult their GP if they have any concerns.
There are currently 34 Cancer Networks across the country whose populations range in size from 600,000 to 3 million. The Cancer Networks were established following the recommendations of the NHS Cancer Plan (September 2000).
Cancer Networks bring together a range of organisations (those who provide services and those who fund them) and are the vehicle for ensuring that all the patients within their population area have equal access to the highest quality of cancer services available. They do this by developing all aspects of local cancer services, common workforce issues and agreement of common service patterns, making best use of the available resources.
